Middle Caicos Resort and Residences
The restoration of Vero Beach required negotiation with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to obtain a Coastal Construction Control Line permit. Detailed coastal engineering analysis of the Vero Beach environment was required to develop a restoration plan that would not interfere with sea turtle nesting and was both suitable for client and agency.
New technology in beach restoration capabilities required Ocean Consulting to document physical and environmental baseline conditions of a stretch of beach within the Albany Beach Resort property on New Providence Island, Bahamas and to monitor the beach regularly post-treatment. Because of the novelty of the technology, Ocean Consulting collected data over a wide range of parameters ranging from sediment compaction tests to water quality sampling.
The Marinas at Vista del Canal in Miami Beach required careful permitting and design because of the sensitivity of the surrounding environment. Ocean Consulting successfully negotiated and acquired permits for the Vista del Canal site in xxx 2008. Daily water sampling to monitor the turbidity of the water surrounding the site during construction was also conducted by Ocean Consulting.
Sea turtles bury their clutches of eggs along the beach in some parts of Miami Beach at night. This pattern is naturally regulated by the moon light. On Miami Beach, the artificial glow of the night sometimes negatively affects sea turtle nesting. To protect sea turtles, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission regulates the strength and type of lighting a coastal development can utilize so the orientation of turtles is not distorted. Ocean Consulting successfully acquired lighting permits for the beach walk feature of the Eden Roc Resort.
The successful permitting of the Fairwinds on the Ocean Condominium of Fort Lauderdale underscores the careful strategizing, negotiation, and development planning required for the safe construction of a structure along the coast. For this project, Ocean Consulting worked closely with the City of Fort Lauderdale and Broward County to obtain a Coastal Construction Control Line permit.
Ocean Consulting has varied experience in international relations throughout the Caribbean and beyond. Ocean Consulting was contracted to provide a Letter of Intent to the Government of Antigua and Barbuda to discuss, in detail, the proposed renovation, refurbishment, expansion, and replacement of most of the existing infrastructure of a resort on Barbuda Island. This detailed document followed a site investigation and multiple meetings with the client and the Government of Antigua and Barbuda.
Ocean Consulting was involved in the preparation of a degraded canal for maintenance dredging. Preparations included determining the quantity of dredge spoil to be removed, the exact dimensions of the dredged area, and the appropriate disposal location of the spoil. This information was requested by the government agencies for permit acquisition.
Varied disciplines were involved in the design and permitting of the Hurricane Cove Maintenance Dredging, Seawall Stabilization, and Dock Replacement Project. Ocean Consulting assisted in expediting the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and Miami-Dade County Department of Environmental Resources Management (DERM) permit approvals for the Project. Ocean Consulting also acquired the US Army Corps of Engineers authorization and obtained permits from the City of Miami building permit. Permit acquisition involved mitigation design work and negotiation given the presence of sensitive marine resources in the vicinity of the project site.
Ocean Consulting spearheaded the site analysis and research for an Environmental Impact Assessment for a five-star development on Middle Caicos island of the Commonwealth of the Turks and Caicos. Natural and physical data gathered was used during the preliminary project design phase to ensure development initiatives minimized impacts to the surrounding pristine environment to the greatest extent practicable while also maintaining the client’s vision for the development.
